Here are some pictures of Allen's blown injected gas big block as it gets
built (thanks go to John for letting me pick his brain as I work on this
build and Mike at Engine Dynamics for doing the machine work right the first
time - and a very special thanks to my wallet, bank account, and credit
cards!):

| (12/05/2003)... |
...The block: a Dart Big M... |
...fresh from the machine shop yesterday... |
...freshly washed and painted today. |
Checking the clearance
of the main bearings. |
Top rings are filed and deburred;
so I double check the ring gap. |
| Same for the 2nd rings but... |
...a couple are still tight. |
| Freeze plugs are in. |
By the way, this is where it's going - a Chris Alston front end in a '65
Chevy II. |

| (12/06/2003) Piston day! |
There's nothing more fun than installing double spiral locks. |
| (12/08/2003) I put the crank
in... |
...and the pistons too. |
Checking pushrod length (and
piston to valve clearance). |
| (12/10/2003) The oil pump and
pan go on. |
So does the cam, timing
chain, timing cover, seal, and hub. |
| (12/19/2003) Heads and
manifold are torqued, set the blower on to check pulley spacing. |
Another angle shot as the
Nova leaves for the paint shop in the background. |
| (01/02/2004) After the
holiday lag, the new JW powerglide is here with "Ultra" housing. |
Along with the 10" blower
converter. |
And my custom RCI surge tank. |
| (01/17/2004) After some
slacking the motor is in... |
...yes it does fit (barely). |
| (01/19/2004) The Lemons
Headers sure are pretty... |
...but there's fit problems
with #1, #2, and #7... |
...so they've got to go back,
but Dan is more than happy to help. |
| (02/05/2004) Got my
replacement set of Lemons Headers back. |
Pretty close, but #7 tube
still doesn't clear the steering. |
Now they go back for the
quick fix and the coating. |
| (02/27/2004) Headers are back
nice and coated. |
Left (driver) side. |
Right (passenger) side. |
That just ain't right ;)! |
| (03/12/2004) Still chugging
away, here's a small taste... |
...of the severe ass whoopin'
that's coming ;)! |
| (04/01/2004) All done and up
and running. Pusher fans because pullers don't fit! |
Left (driver) side with wire
separators on and return loop on the fuel pump. |
Right (passenger) side where
you can see the surge tank (which works great!) |

Build notes:
 | The piston manufacturer (JE) wants a .027" ring gap
for the top rings and the ring manufacturer (TSI) wants .025"; I went with
.025". |
 | The piston manufacturer (JE) wants a .027" ring gap
for the 2nd rings and the ring manufacturer (TSI) wants .016"; a call to
TSI tells me that they don't want more than .024" so I compromised and
along with John's advice went with .020" for these. |
 | I didn't bother with pictures of the oil ring gaps;
a quick check confirms they need no filing and are at the .015" minimum
required. |
 | It's true! There is nothing more fun that
installing double spiral locks! |
 | With the .300" taller lifters and lash caps I ended
up needing 8.600" and 9.550" pushrods. |
 | My setup needed 1" spacers for the blower pulleys so
the alternator pulleys would line up. |
